India-Bangladesh relations remain a priority for New Delhi, with India expressing interest in working closely with the new government of Bangladesh to deepen bilateral cooperation, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pranay Verma said on Wednesday.

Pranay Verma made the remarks after a courtesy meeting with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Dhaka, where both sides discussed strengthening diplomatic engagement and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

The Indian envoy said New Delhi aims to develop broader and more dynamic cooperation with Bangladesh based on mutual interests and shared economic and development goals. He emphasised that India seeks to advance positive and constructive bilateral relations with Dhaka while building on the longstanding partnership between the two neighbouring countries.

According to the envoy, discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing future-orientated collaboration while maintaining the historical ties that underpin India-Bangladesh relations. The two sides also exchanged views on expanding people-centric cooperation in areas such as development initiatives, technology exchange, digital inclusion and strengthening the local government system.

Pranay Verma said India remains committed to supporting a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. He added that New Delhi is ready to continue dialogue and collaboration with Dhaka in all areas of mutual interest, reflecting the strategic importance of the bilateral partnership in South Asia.

Officials noted that strengthening institutional cooperation and development partnerships remains a central element of India-Bangladesh diplomatic engagement as both countries seek to expand regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
