Libya on Thursday expressed full support for Dr Khalilur Rahman as Bangladesh’s candidate for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for the 2026–2027 term.

The assurance was conveyed when Abdulmutalib S.M. Suliman paid a courtesy call on Humayun Kabir at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday afternoon.

During the meeting, the Libyan envoy formally expressed his country’s support for Bangladesh’s candidate in the upcoming UNGA presidential election.

Humayun Kabir conveyed sincere thanks and gratitude to the government of Libya for its backing, noting that such support in the international arena would further strengthen the longstanding friendly relations between the two nations.

The two sides also discussed Bangladesh–Libya bilateral relations, ways to enhance mutual cooperation, and opportunities for collaboration on various international issues.
