Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed authorities to establish language training centres nationwide to prepare unemployed youth for overseas employment and strengthen the country’s skilled workforce.
The directive was issued during a meeting of the committee on overseas employment expansion and expatriate welfare held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon briefed reporters after the meeting.
According to Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister emphasised urgent steps to equip job seekers with language skills through training centres that will engage both local and foreign instructors.
He said the initiative aims to enhance competitiveness in international labour markets and improve employment opportunities abroad.
The meeting also focused on accelerating overseas job creation and addressing issues related to migrant welfare.
Officials discussed strategies to simplify recruitment processes and remove bureaucratic obstacles.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister also directed the relevant ministries to introduce low-interest bank loans for aspiring migrant workers and streamline loan procedures so individuals do not need to sell assets to finance migration.
He also asked the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to provide free WiFi services at major international airports - Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram and MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet - to improve passenger convenience.
In addition, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to begin renovation work on a temple in the Dhaka-17 constituency, fulfilling a pledge made during his election campaign.
Officials including ministers, advisers, secretaries and senior government representatives attended the meeting, where broader discussions were held on employment expansion, digital services and expatriate support initiatives.
