The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is continuing a training workshop for Members of Parliament (MPs) in Dhaka as the party prepares its lawmakers for the upcoming session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The second day of the BNP MP training workshop began at 10:00am on Saturday at the party chairperson’s office in the Gulshan area of the capital.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who also serves as Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, inaugurated the day’s programme.
Lawmakers from Dhaka district and the Dhaka, Mymensingh and Faridpur divisions attended the morning session of the workshop.
The party said MPs from the Sylhet, Cumilla and Chattogram divisions are scheduled to participate in the concluding afternoon session.
Several senior BNP leaders were present at the event, including Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan and senior leader Osman Faruk also attended the programme.
The two-day workshop was formally opened on Friday by Tarique Rahman, Prime Minister and Leader of the House.
On the first day, ministers, state ministers and advisers joined the morning session, while MPs from the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Faridpur divisions took part in the afternoon discussions.
Party officials said the workshop is intended to familiarise BNP lawmakers with parliamentary procedures, policy priorities and legislative responsibilities ahead of the next parliamentary term.
The first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is scheduled to begin at 11:00am on 12 March. President Mohammed Shahabuddin summoned the parliamentary session on 23 February.
BNP currently holds a large majority in the new parliament. Of the 209 BNP lawmakers elected to the 13th parliament, 146 are first-time MPs, according to party officials.
