Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma on Saturday reiterated India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, stable and progressive Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while speaking at an iftar reception hosted by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, attended by political leaders, diplomats, journalists, religious figures and distinguished members of civil society.
The iftar was held at the Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Dhaka.
Government representatives and senior leaders from several political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, NCP and Jatiya Party, joined the gathering at the invitation of High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma and his wife Manu Verma.
Addressing the guests, Pranay Kumar Verma said the holy month of Ramadan is a time for reflection, compassion and gratitude.
He noted that iftar offers an opportunity to strengthen bonds among people and reflect on shared human values such as empathy, generosity and kindness.
Speaking about bilateral relations, the High Commissioner said India and Bangladesh enjoy close ties rooted in deep cultural, social and familial connections, making their partnership strongly people-oriented.
He also recalled the shared history and sacrifices during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, describing it as a foundation that continues to connect the people of the two neighbouring countries.
Pranay Kumar Verma further said that the participation of leaders and guests from diverse sectors demonstrated a collective commitment to further enhancing friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
He also conveyed his best wishes to all those observing Ramadan, expressing hope that the holy month would bring peace, prosperity and happiness to the people of Bangladesh.
