State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki has said the government’s primary objective is to bring economic relief to people while strengthening key sectors of the national economy.

Speaking at an iftar gathering in Narayanganj city on Saturday evening, Zonayed Saki said the administration led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is implementing a series of policy initiatives aimed at stabilising the economy, protecting the banking sector and ensuring the basic rights of citizens.

The event was organised by the district and city units of Ganosamhati Andolon at a convention hall in the city.

Zonayed Saki said several social and economic support programmes have already been introduced, including family cards and agriculture cards, alongside initiatives to waive certain agricultural loans to support farmers.

“These initiatives are intended to provide direct relief to people and strengthen economic resilience,” he said.

The planning state minister also emphasised the importance of national unity and cooperation in addressing global economic challenges.

He said collective efforts through democratic processes are essential for ensuring stability and advancing Bangladesh’s development goals.

Referring to the most recent national election, Zonayed Saki said the country has passed an important milestone in its democratic journey.

He added that political parties and citizens had engaged in a long struggle against what he described as an authoritarian system, noting that 39 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Ganosamhati Andolon, took part in the movement.

The iftar programme was attended by several political leaders, including Abul Kalam, member of parliament for Narayanganj-5; Abdullah Al Amin, member of parliament for Narayanganj-4; Sakhawat Hossain Khan, administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation; and local leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Officials said such gatherings during Ramadan provide an opportunity for political leaders and community representatives to exchange views on national development priorities and governance issues.
