Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began the first working day of the week with a light-hearted yet symbolic remark as he stepped out of his residence for office on Sunday morning.

As he opened the door of his Gulshan residence around 8:42am and greeted those present with a smile, the Prime Minister said, “Let’s go to war,” before heading out for the day’s work.

According to officials present at the scene, the brief comment initially caught some of the Prime Minister’s personal staff by surprise.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, who was standing beside him at the time, later explained that the remark was meant in a figurative sense, referring to the daily challenges involved in running the government.

Atikur Rahman Ruman said the Prime Minister often views the responsibilities of governing the country and addressing public issues as a constant battle that requires determination and teamwork.

After leaving his residence, the Prime Minister travelled to the Bangladesh Secretariat and arrived at his office in the Cabinet Division around 9:30am.

Several meetings were scheduled for the day as part of his routine official activities.

According to the Prime Minister’s programme, he was expected to meet Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Education Adviser Mahdi Amin, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, along with a number of other officials.
