The Ministry of Education on Sunday announced that all English-medium schools across the country will remain closed from Monday until the end of the government-declared Ramadan and Eid holidays.

The decision was taken at a meeting on policy matters concerning English-medium schools and coaching centres held at the conference room of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

The meeting was chaired by Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

Officials said representatives of English-medium schools operating under foreign curricula were present at the meeting, where discussions focused on easing difficulties faced by city residents during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly in Dhaka and other major cities.

The prevailing global situation was also taken into consideration during the discussions.

According to the decision, institutions will be permitted to conduct only mandatory examinations during the holiday period, provided they follow their previously approved schedules.

The meeting also decided that all coaching centres - both for Bangla-medium and English-medium students - must suspend their activities during the same period.

Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Abdul Khaleque, along with other concerned officials, also attended the meeting.
