The body of Ahmed Ali, a Bangladeshi migrant worker who was killed in Dubai amid the ongoing tensions linked to the Iran–Israel conflict, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.

State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque received the body at the airport along with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.

Ahmed Ali, a resident of Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar district, is among several Bangladeshi nationals who have lost their lives since the conflict escalated in the Middle East.

Md Nurul Haque said that four Bangladeshis have been killed since the Iran–Israel conflict began, including two in Saudi Arabia, one in Bahrain, and Ahmed Ali in Dubai.

The minister said the government has already contacted the families of the Bangladeshis who died in Saudi Arabia and conveyed condolences and assurances of support on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

“We have spoken with the families and assured them of the government’s support,” Md Nurul Haque said, adding that arrangements are being made to return the bodies of the deceased Bangladeshis to their families.

He also noted that the Middle East conflict has disrupted regional air travel, with several flights remaining suspended since the crisis began.

According to the minister, the prime minister has instructed all relevant authorities to work in coordination to address the situation, including ensuring accommodation and assistance for Bangladeshi passengers stranded due to flight disruptions.

Officials said Bangladeshi diplomatic missions in the affected countries are providing assistance to several injured Bangladeshis, ensuring they receive necessary medical and logistical support.

Md Nurul Haque urged Bangladeshi expatriates living in the Middle East to remain cautious, avoid conflict-prone areas and refrain from posting content on social media that could violate the laws of their host countries.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi citizens abroad remains a top priority for the government, adding that authorities are closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region.

Senior officials present at the airport included Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan and Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, director general of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.

Officials said the government will continue to monitor developments in the Middle East and take necessary steps to support Bangladeshi workers and expatriates in the region.
