The Home Ministry has called a meeting to discuss a proposal to create 4,000 sub-inspector (SI) posts to strengthen the capacity of Bangladesh Police in maintaining law and order nationwide.
According to a notice issued by the ministry on 8 March, a review meeting will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday (10 March) in the conference room of the Home Ministry. The meeting will be chaired by the ministry’s senior secretary.
The notice states that the discussion will focus on a proposal from the Police Department to create 4,000 unarmed SI grade-10 (unarmed) posts in various units under the organisational structure of Bangladesh Police.
The initiative forms part of efforts to address manpower shortages within the force.
Soon after taking office, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed raised the issue of recruitment to resolve staffing gaps at different levels of the police.
During a meeting with the heads of various departments under the ministry on 23 February, the minister directed authorities to take immediate steps to fill vacant posts, including urgently completing the recruitment process for vacant constable positions.
On 26 February, the Home Minister also announced the immediate recruitment of 180 vacant police sergeant posts.
Recruitment notices for constable and sergeant positions have already been published, and the application process is underway.
Officials say that the proposed recruitment of additional sub-inspectors will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Bangladesh Police and support better law and order management across the country.
