International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam on Tuesday said that after assuming office he instructed all prosecutors to rise above greed and personal interests while performing their duties.
“Anyone who wishes to work with me must remain above all greed and personal interests; otherwise, they should step aside,” he said.
Speaking at a press briefing in the afternoon, Aminul Islam said reports had been published regarding a prosecutor who has already resigned and whose resignation has been accepted.
“We will initiate an internal investigation from the Office of the Chief Prosecutor,” he added.
He said the report contains a serious allegation that should not have been brought against any of their prosecutors. Legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is submitted in this regard, he noted.
Talking to journalists at the chief prosecutor's office, Aminul Islam said he has taken initiatives to make the ICT more dynamic. He held meetings with investigators and prosecutors and have taken custody of the files of several cases, saying that in the interest of justice it is necessary for him to personally oversee their management.
The press briefing followed newspaper reports alleging that former ICT prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukder attempted to negotiate with the family of an accused person for a large sum of money.
Md Saimum Reza Talukder resigned from his post on 9 March.
