Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that President Mohammed Shahabuddin will address the National Parliament as the new parliamentary session begins, outlining key national issues including matters related to the July Charter.
Speaking to reporters after leaving the parliament premises on Wednesday, Salahuddin Ahmed said the President’s address will cover a wide range of issues connected to the July Charter and the government’s broader policy direction.
The home minister also confirmed that the upcoming parliamentary sitting will begin at 11am on Thursday.
During the session, Members of Parliament will elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House. Following their election, the President will administer the oath to both leaders of the parliament.
Earlier in the day, the BNP parliamentary party held a meeting at the National Parliament complex to discuss preparations for the first session of the 13th National Parliament. The meeting was held at the government party hall inside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting, which was attended by BNP lawmakers and senior party leaders.
According to party sources, the meeting focused on organisational preparations and coordination among ruling party lawmakers ahead of the parliamentary session scheduled to begin on Thursday, 12 March.
Leaders also discussed legislative priorities and strategies for conducting parliamentary proceedings smoothly in the upcoming session.
The start of the new parliamentary session is expected to mark an important phase in the government’s legislative agenda, with discussions likely to centre on policy priorities, governance issues and implementation of commitments outlined in the July Charter.
