A court in the capital on Thursday set 23 June as the deadline for the submission of a probe report in a case involving 17 individuals, including the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The group is accused of causing a loss of 3.09 billion taka (£20.5 million) to the exchequer through alleged irregularities and abuse of power.
The case centres on the awarding of a contract to collect tolls on the Meghna-Gomti Bridge. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Thursday after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit its findings as scheduled.
The ACC initially filed the case on 12 October 2025. Alongside the former Prime Minister, the accused include several high-profile figures such as Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Obaidul Quader, and Anisul Huq, among others.
According to court documents, Computer Network Systems Ltd (CNS) was granted the contract in 2016 through a single-source tender, allegedly bypassing mandatory competitive bidding processes.
The CNS was awarded a five-year contract with a service charge set at 17.75 per cent of total toll revenue. Consequently, the company received more than 4.89 billion taka in payments—a figure investigators claim is significantly higher than industry standards for comparable contracts.
