Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen informed Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Thursday of the upcoming visit of Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong to Bangladesh. Mr Sun is scheduled to lead Beijing’s delegation for the 14th Bangladesh-China Diplomatic Consultations on 2-3 April.

During the meeting, Ambassador Yao briefed the Foreign Minister on the preparations for the consultations, which are expected to provide a comprehensive review of the bilateral relationship between the two nations. Officials noted that the talks will also explore new opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Vice Foreign Minister Sun is also expected to hold meetings with high-level Bangladeshi dignitaries during his stay.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman acknowledged China’s longstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s development. He expressed his expectation on Thursday that the visit would provide “fresh momentum” to bilateral relations following the recent formation of the new government.
