Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday visited senior BNP leader Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where the veteran politician is receiving treatment after falling seriously ill earlier this week.
The prime minister arrived at the hospital at around 2:20pm and spent time at the bedside of Mirza Abbas, inquiring about his health condition, according to Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman directed relevant authorities to take prompt steps to facilitate advanced medical treatment for Mirza Abbas in Singapore. Officials said preparations were underway for his transfer abroad for specialised care.
Family members and doctors were present during the visit, including Afroza Abbas, the wife of Mirza Abbas and president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
Earlier on Friday, the BNP announced that Mirza Abbas would be transported to Singapore by air ambulance arranged through Evercare Hospital. The flight was scheduled to depart at around 6:00pm, with plans for him to be admitted to the Department of Neuroscience at the National University Hospital in Singapore for further treatment.
Mirza Abbas reportedly became seriously unwell on Wednesday evening while drinking water during iftar. He lost consciousness shortly afterwards and was later taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka when his condition did not improve.
Following the sudden illness, Afroza Abbas appealed to people across the country to pray for her husband’s recovery.
Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and a long-time political figure in Bangladesh, has remained under close medical observation since being admitted to the hospital.
