Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has indicated that the proposal to establish a constitutional reform council may come up for discussion in the Jatiya Sangsad in the near future.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday after a meeting of the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee at the parliament building in Dhaka, the minister said the issue could be raised during parliamentary deliberations if lawmakers decide to place it on the agenda.
He explained that the committee meeting focused on determining the schedule and priorities for the ongoing parliamentary session. Discussions included the expected length of the session, the major issues to be debated in the House, legislative proposals that may be introduced, and the time allocation for debates on the President’s address to parliament.
Salahuddin Ahmed also announced that the current sitting of Parliament will pause shortly for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays.
According to the schedule, parliament will adjourn after Sunday’s session and is expected to reconvene on 29 March. The parliamentary proceedings are likely to continue throughout April once the session resumes.
The home minister further noted that several ordinances issued during the tenure of the interim government will be reviewed by lawmakers.
He said those ordinances will be referred to a special parliamentary committee tasked with examining their provisions in detail.
After completing its review and scrutiny, the committee will prepare reports containing recommendations on the ordinances. These reports will then be placed before parliament, allowing members to debate the findings and decide whether the ordinances should be approved, amended, or rejected.
The minister said the government remains committed to ensuring that all legislative matters are handled through proper parliamentary procedures and open discussion within the House.
