The government of Bangladesh has reassigned several senior police officials to key leadership positions in the country’s major law enforcement agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Special Branch (SB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The changes were announced through separate notifications issued on Monday by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the order signed by Deputy Secretary Toufique Ahmed, Ahsan Habib Palash, who had been serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Chattogram Range, has been appointed as the new Director General of the RAB.
In another change, Sardar Nurul Amin, previously working as Additional IG (Human Resource Management) at the Bangladesh Police Headquarters, has been assigned the responsibility of leading the SB, the intelligence wing of the police.
Meanwhile, Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, who holds the rank of Additional IG of Police, has been appointed as the chief of the CID.
Officials said the reshuffle is part of routine administrative changes aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and enhancing coordination among key law enforcement agencies.
The RAB plays a major role in combating organised crime, terrorism and narcotics-related offences, while the SB is responsible for intelligence gathering related to national security. The CID, on the other hand, handles complex criminal investigations, forensic analysis and specialised crime inquiries across the country.
The new appointments are expected to bring fresh leadership to these agencies as they continue to address evolving law enforcement challenges across Bangladesh.
