Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has confirmed that efforts are underway to restart tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens, which have been suspended for some time due to administrative and procedural challenges.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after a meeting with the Prime Minister’s Finance Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Pranay Verma said that both the Indian and Bangladeshi authorities are actively working to resume visa issuance, and the public will be informed as soon as the process is restored.
The High Commissioner noted that earlier this month, he had expressed optimism that visa operations between the two neighbouring countries would normalise soon.
“We are fully aware of the demand from Bangladeshi travellers wishing to visit India, and steps are being taken to ensure that tourist visa services are restarted in a timely manner,” he said.
In addition to visa issues, Pranay Verma highlighted that his discussions with the Prime Minister’s adviser focused on cross-border energy cooperation.
The two sides reviewed ongoing bilateral energy projects and explored ways to further enhance power trade and energy connectivity between India and Bangladesh.
He emphasised that collaboration in the energy sector remains a key area of mutual interest and is crucial for regional development.
The Indian envoy concluded by reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges, including facilitating travel for tourism, education and business purposes.
