Seven universities get new VCs

The government has appointed new vice-chancellors (VCs) at seven major universities, including the University of Dhaka.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced the appointments during a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday.

The minister said the new VCs are expected to bring fresh energy and leadership to their respective universities, improve academic standards, enhance research output, and strengthen overall management.

Professor ABM Obaidul Islam has been appointed as the VC of the University of Dhaka, while Professor Rais Uddin has been named VC of Jagannath University. Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan has been appointed VC of Bangladesh Open University, Professor Nurul Islam will head Dhaka Central University, and Professor Mohammad Masud has been assigned as VC of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

In addition, Professor Md Al Forkan has been appointed as the VC of the University of Chattogram, and Professor Faridul Islam will serve as VC of the University of Rajshahi.

The education minister expressed confidence that the newly appointed VCs would take concrete steps to modernise administration, encourage research collaborations, promote innovation, and ensure quality education for students.

He also urged the academic leadership to work closely with faculty members, students and administrative staff to foster a supportive and vibrant academic environment.

“These appointments mark a significant step towards strengthening higher education in the country.

The government believes that capable and visionary leadership at universities is crucial for preparing students to meet national and global challenges,” the minister added.
