The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stepped up 24-hour security across Dhaka city as millions of residents travel home for the Eid holidays, leaving many neighbourhoods sparsely populated.
Commanding Officer of RAB-10 Mohammad Kamruzzaman said on Tuesday that the mass exodus of passengers has left residential areas vulnerable to theft, burglary, and other crimes.
“During Eid, empty homes and quiet streets often attract criminal activity. We are taking all necessary measures to prevent such incidents,” he added while inspecting the Sadarghat Launch Terminal.
Official estimates indicate that roughly 15 million people are expected to leave the capital during the holiday period. Kamruzzaman noted that crime rates tend to rise in such situations, making vigilant security measures essential.
To address the risk, RAB has intensified patrols across Dhaka, particularly at night, and is concentrating on less crowded areas and homes left unoccupied during the festivities.
In addition, the force is closely monitoring major transport hubs, including Sadarghat Launch Terminal and Sayedabad Bus Terminal, to prevent passenger harassment and fare exploitation.
Kamruzzaman urged travellers to report any issues immediately to the RAB control room, which will operate 24/7 during the holiday period. Hotline personnel are on standby to respond to complaints and take swift action where necessary.
The RAB’s proactive measures aim to ensure a safe, secure, and hassle-free Eid travel experience for all passengers and safeguard properties in the capital.
