Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has stressed the importance of coordinated industrialisation in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts to reduce regional disparities and create mass employment opportunities.
Speaking at a high-level meeting held in the conference room of the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dulu said, “Industrialisation is the most effective way to drive economic growth and generate jobs in these districts.”
The session was presided over by Lalmonirhat DC HM Rokibul Hyder.
As the chief guest, Dulu urged all stakeholders, including local authorities, business representatives and civil society, to work together to ensure successful implementation of government-led development projects in the region.
Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, attended the programme as special guest.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to equitable development, noting that historically underdeveloped areas are now being prioritised to turn challenges into sustainable economic opportunities.
He confirmed plans to establish new factories utilising local agricultural products to strengthen the economic base and revitalise the regional economy.
Meeting participants acknowledged that northern districts have long lagged behind in infrastructure and industrial development, emphasising the need for targeted development initiatives.
The high-level session was attended by MPs Md Hassan Rajib Prodhan (Lalmonirhat-1) and Md Rokun Uddin Babul (Lalmonirhat-2), Kurigram DC Annapurna Debnath, Lalmonirhat SP Asaduzzaman, and Kurigram SP Khandakar Fazle Rabbi.
Local political leaders, business representatives, civil society members, senior officials, and media personnel also participated, reflecting broad-based support for the government’s development agenda in the northern districts.
