PM calls for united effort to build discrimination-free Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the fundamental goal of Bangladesh’s independence was to establish a nation free from discrimination, and grounded in democracy, peace and prosperity.

In a message issued on the eve of the Great Independence and National Day, to be observed on 26 March, he urged the people to remain committed to those founding ideals.

He emphasised the importance of national unity, tolerance and patriotism in advancing the country’s development.

Extending greetings to citizens at home and abroad, the Prime Minister described 26 March as a historic and glorious day in the nation’s history.

He paid tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifices made independence possible and remembered with deep respect the freedom fighters who participated in the Liberation War.

He also acknowledged the contributions and sufferings of countless individuals, including women who endured hardship during the struggle, as well as all those who played a role in achieving independence. He prayed for eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs.

Highlighting the significance of the day, the Prime Minister called on citizens to take inspiration from the spirit of independence and dedicate themselves to the welfare of the nation.

He urged everyone, regardless of position, to contribute to building a developed, prosperous and dignified Bangladesh.

He also expressed hope for the success of all programmes planned to mark the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day.
