President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said that the main objective of Bangladesh’s independence was to ensure political and economic freedom, eliminate exploitation, and uphold the dignity and empowerment of all citizens.
In a message issued on the eve of the Great Independence and National Day, he called on the citizens to work towards fulfilling the unfinished goals of independence by strengthening equality, good governance, transparency and accountability in every sector of the state and society.
He described it as a shared responsibility to build a safe, prosperous and humane Bangladesh for future generations.
Extending greetings to citizens both at home and abroad, the President noted that independence remains the greatest achievement in the nation’s history.
He paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War, whose sacrifices secured the country’s sovereignty, and also remembered Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman along with all freedom fighters, women who suffered during the war, and countless people who contributed to the struggle.
He said the courage and sacrifice of the freedom fighters continue to inspire the nation to move forward with confidence in building a modern state based on justice, democracy, and human dignity.
The President also acknowledged ongoing challenges, including the effects of past misgovernance, global economic pressures and energy crises, noting that the government is committed to addressing these issues responsibly while pursuing a self-reliant and dynamic future.
He stressed the importance of unity, empathy, and patriotism at this critical time and urged all citizens, regardless of differences, to work together for a just, secure, and prosperous Bangladesh.
He expressed hope for the success of all programmes marking the historic day.
