A passenger bus operated by Souhardo Paribahan plunged into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry at Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident took place at around 5:15pm at pontoon no-3, when the bus reportedly lost control and toppled into the river with passengers on board.

Talha Bin Jasim, media officer of the Fire Service headquarters, confirmed that divers are conducting rescue operations and that additional diving teams are being dispatched from Dhaka to assist.

Dewan Sohel Rana, deputy assistant director of the Rajbari Fire Service, said teams from nearby Paturia and Aricha ferry terminals are en route to join the ongoing search and rescue mission.

The officer-in-charge of Goalanda Ghat Police Station reported that no bodies have been recovered yet and many passengers are believed to remain inside the submerged vehicle.

Local sources indicated that five to seven passengers managed to escape by swimming to safety immediately after the bus went under.

Fire Service and local authorities are continuing intensive rescue efforts to locate those still trapped.

The incident has caused traffic disruptions at the ferry terminal, and authorities have urged people to avoid the area while rescue operations continue.
