The Ministry of Education has formed a high-level inter-ministerial committee to ensure cleanliness and a healthy environment in all educational institutions across Bangladesh, both in urban and rural areas.
The state minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives has been appointed as the chair of this committee.
The information was shared on Wednesday through a notice issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
The notice, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Muhammad Helal Chowdhury, provides five urgent directives regarding the preparation for reopening schools after Eid-ul-Fitr and the subsequent activities.
The ministry has classified the matter as “extremely urgent” and requested the concerned authorities to implement the following measures:
1. Before reopening educational institutions after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in 2026, ensure that the entire campus is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
2. Strengthen monitoring systems to ensure that institutions are kept clean on a daily basis.
3. Conduct special cleanliness drives weekly with the active participation of teachers and students, rather than relying solely on cleaning staff.
4. Implement tree-planting programmes in each institution and ensure regular maintenance of any created gardens.
5. Promote habits of cleanliness among students through regular awareness campaigns and motivational activities.
According to the ministry, the inter-ministerial committee will regularly monitor field-level activities throughout the year to maintain continuity. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure a disease-free and pleasant learning environment for students.
