Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today issued a series of directives to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) parliamentarians, urging them to play a more active role in legislative proceedings and inject greater energy into parliamentary activities.
The meeting was held at the BNP’s treasury bench conference room at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday afternoon.
According to Jahidul Islam Rony, deputy press secretary to the Prime Minister, delivered a comprehensive address to the BNP lawmakers, outlining the importance of proactive engagement in parliamentary debates, committee activities and oversight responsibilities.
The session began with BNP MPs observing a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Professor Dilara Hafiz, spouse of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram. Members offered prayers for her eternal peace before turning to parliamentary matters.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the ongoing government initiatives, the current political landscape, and the party’s legislative priorities.
Lawmakers were encouraged to strengthen their contributions to parliamentary debates, propose bills, and actively participate in committees to ensure that the BNP’s voice and oversight responsibilities are clearly represented.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the need for coordination among BNP MPs to formulate effective strategies, highlight public concerns, and ensure that parliamentary work aligns with the expectations of citizens.
Future action plans, including enhanced engagement with constituents and oversight of key policies, were also deliberated in the session.
Jahidul Islam Rony added that the meeting reflected the party’s commitment to more dynamic, transparent and accountable parliamentary participation, signalling a renewed focus on legislative effectiveness and governance.
