Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday called for an integrated and strategic plan to speed up development activities of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

He made the remarks while addressing a review meeting on ongoing LGED projects at LGED Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area.

State Minister Mir Shahe Alam attended the session as a special guest.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mirza Fakhrul emphasised that fostering patriotism among officials and maintaining higher standards of work were essential to sustaining the country’s overall development momentum.

He highlighted the need for rural-focused integrated development plans that can improve the socio-economic conditions of local communities across the country.

State Minister Shahe Alam said that development initiatives could achieve greater impact if the number of projects is limited but their geographical coverage expanded.

He stressed prioritising large-scale, integrated projects over scattered smaller ones to ensure optimal utilisation of resources and more sustainable outcomes.

The meeting was chaired by Local Government Division Secretary Md Sohidul Hasan.

At the beginning of the session, a documentary was screened, showcasing LGED’s history and its ongoing development efforts.

LGED Chief Engineer Md Belal Hossain and Director General of the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Wing Md Mahmudul Hasan were also present at that time.

Speakers at the meeting underlined the importance of improving project implementation quality, avoiding wastage of public funds, and completing all development works on schedule.
