Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday called for the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) to function on the principle of insaf (justice), expressing hope that ensuring fairness in Parliament would help establish justice throughout the country.

Speaking in the Parliament, Dr Shafiqur formally congratulated newly elected Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal and lauded his commitment to neutrality and impartiality in conducting parliamentary proceedings.

“The people expect Parliament to be the centre of national governance, and the Deputy Speaker’s role is crucial in upholding justice and fairness,” he said, emphasising that the Deputy Speaker’s pledge to act impartially reflects the spirit of insaf that citizens anticipate from their representatives.

Shafiqur Rahman assured the opposition’s full cooperation in supporting reasonable and justified decisions during the Deputy Speaker’s tenure.

He also noted that human errors may occur, but the opposition would constructively assist in correcting any such mistakes.

The opposition leader expressed confidence that a parliament guided by justice and fairness could play a vital role in extending justice across the country.

He concluded by wishing the Deputy Speaker good health, longevity, and success in his duties, once again congratulating him on his election.
