Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan on Monday urged officials and field workers involved in mosquito control to carry out their duties with dedication and full commitment.

He emphasised that Dhaka’s mosquito control programme requires further strengthening to provide relief to city residents suffering from mosquito-borne problems.

Shafiqul made the remarks at the opening session of a two-day training programme on Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and Basic Pest Control Techniques, organised by the DNCC Health Department at Nagar Bhaban.

Speaking as the chief guest, the administrator highlighted the importance of practical skills over theoretical knowledge in mosquito control operations.

“Even if complete success is not achieved, sincere efforts will help us reach the desired goal,” he said, urging workers to maintain continuous effort and focus.

He noted that effective mosquito control largely depends on the diligence of field staff. Linking the issue to waste management, Shafiqul said DNCC is actively implementing proper waste disposal measures, which play a critical role in reducing mosquito breeding grounds.

The administrator also announced that outstanding performers in mosquito control activities would be recognised and rewarded by the city corporation.

The event was presided over by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, while Entomologist Dr Kabirul Bashar was present as special guest.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman and Public Health Specialist Dr Benazir Ahmed, among others, were also present at the programme.
