Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has asked the education ministry to come up with practical measures to reduce traffic congestion in the capital during school hours.
The directive came during a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday with Education Adviser ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, according to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman.
Officials discussed the growing traffic pressure around schools, particularly during peak hours, and explored possible alternatives to ease congestion. The Prime Minister instructed the ministry to prepare detailed proposals addressing the issue.
Highlighting the severity of the problem, Atiqur Rahman Ruman noted that in some cases, nearly 100 vehicles gather outside a single school for around 150 students, leading to significant traffic jams and inconvenience for commuters and students alike.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for effective and sustainable solutions to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce public suffering during school commute hours.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister also held separate discussions with Energy Adviser Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku and State Minister Aninda Islam Amit.
Later on, Chief of Naval Staff M Nazmul Hassan also met the Prime Minister.
