Iran has approved the movement of six Bangladesh-flagged vessels that had been stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, offering relief to concerns over maritime disruptions in a strategically vital shipping corridor.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday by Iran’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, during a press briefing at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka.

According to the ambassador, Iranian authorities had been informed about the vessels earlier, but initial delays occurred due to a lack of detailed identification data. He said that once the necessary specifications were provided by the Bangladesh government last week, the matter was reviewed by Iran’s National Security Council.

“Iran has now authorised assistance for the six ships,” he said, adding that there are currently no obstacles to their movement through the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments, has seen heightened scrutiny amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The safe passage of commercial vessels through the route remains a key concern for energy-importing countries, including Bangladesh.

Jahanabadi said Iranian authorities are continuing to coordinate with Dhaka and have assured full cooperation to ensure uninterrupted navigation for Bangladeshi vessels.

The clearance is expected to ease logistical pressures and reinforce confidence in maritime trade flows between the region and Bangladesh, particularly as global shipping routes remain sensitive to security developments.
