Iran has expressed dissatisfaction with Bangladesh’s official response to the ongoing Middle East conflict, with its envoy in Dhaka stating that the government’s position fell short of expectations.

Speaking at a press conference at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday, Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi said Iran was “not satisfied” with the statement issued by Bangladesh regarding the conflict involving the United States and Israel.

The ambassador noted that Tehran had expected a clearer and stronger position from Dhaka, particularly in condemning what he described as acts of aggression.

He added that Iran felt hurt by the statement, suggesting it did not adequately reflect the seriousness of the situation.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s identity as a Muslim-majority country, Jahanabadi said Iran had anticipated stronger support in denouncing actions against it. However, he expressed disappointment that such a stance was not taken.

Despite the dissatisfaction, the ambassador clarified that Iran does not plan to send any formal diplomatic protest to Bangladesh at this stage.

He indicated, however, that the matter could be raised directly if he meets the country’s Prime Minister in the future.

He further pointed out that, as a member of both the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Bangladesh had the opportunity to take a firmer position.

He also mentioned that countries like Russia and China have already issued statements condemning actions against Iran.
