Krishak card to begin on April 14 with PM’s Tangail visit

Bangladesh is set to take a significant step in strengthening its agricultural support system as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman prepares to formally inaugurate the nationwide distribution of Krishak Cards from Tangail on April 14.

The launch event will be held at Shaheed Maruf Stadium, where the prime minister is expected to personally hand over the cards to a group of farmers, symbolising the beginning of a broader rollout aimed at improving access to agricultural services and benefits.

Officials describe the initiative as a major policy intervention designed to streamline support for farmers, enhance transparency, and ensure targeted delivery of government assistance. The Krishak Card is expected to serve as a central tool in identifying farmers and linking them with subsidies, financial services, and other agricultural inputs.

Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, who inspected the venue ahead of the event, characterised the launch as a moment of significance for the region. He noted that beginning the programme in Tangail carries both symbolic and practical importance, reflecting the government’s commitment to grassroots agricultural development.

During his visit, the minister reviewed logistical preparations and directed officials to ensure that all arrangements meet required standards. Senior administrators, including Agriculture Secretary Rafiqul E Mohammad, were present as part of the oversight process.

A preparatory meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque was also held at the district administration office, where officials were instructed to coordinate closely and execute their responsibilities with precision to ensure a smooth inauguration.

The Krishak Card programme is expected to play a pivotal role in modernising Bangladesh’s agricultural support framework, particularly at a time when the sector faces growing challenges related to climate variability, input costs, and supply chain pressures.

By launching the initiative in Tangail, authorities appear to be signalling a focus on inclusive rural development, with the programme positioned as a foundational step toward more efficient and accountable delivery of agricultural assistance across the country.
