Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Mirza Abbas has been moved out of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Singapore General Hospital after showing signs of improvement following complex brain surgery.
The BNP Standing Committee member and political adviser to the prime minister was shifted to a cabin on Friday after spending 19 days under close medical observation.
BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam said his condition is gradually improving.
“I spoke to his wife Afroza Abbas this morning. His condition is gradually improving. He has been moved from the ICU to a cabin today,” he said.
He added that treatment is ongoing under strict supervision.
“His treatment is still going on under close medical supervision and will need to continue,” Dr Rafiqul said.
Doctors will continue advanced physiotherapy as part of the recovery process following the surgery.
Mirza Abbas was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on March 15 for specialised treatment after undergoing emergency brain surgery in Dhaka.
He was initially admitted to Evercare Hospital on March 11 after falling unconscious during iftar.
A medical board comprising leading neurologists recommended immediate surgery before his transfer abroad for further treatment.
Doctors in Singapore are continuing to monitor his condition closely as recovery progresses.
