Bangladesh has reported 10 more suspected measles deaths and 974 hospital admissions over the past 24 hours till Sunday morning, underscoring the growing public health concern across the country.
With the new figures, the total number of children who have died with suspected measles symptoms now stands at 113.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, two deaths were confirmed as caused by measles, while 10 more children died showing suspected measles symptoms. During the same period, 974 patients were admitted to hospitals with measles-like symptoms, and 54 new cases were laboratory-confirmed.
DGHS data shows that since 15 March 2026, a total of 929 measles cases have been confirmed nationwide, with 17 deaths officially attributed to the disease. Meanwhile, 7,610 suspected cases have been reported, of which 3,380 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
Health authorities are urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant, monitoring children for fever, rash, cough, or other measles-related symptoms, and to seek immediate medical care if these appear. Officials warn that the outbreak could worsen without timely intervention and vaccination.
“The situation remains serious, and we are closely tracking all suspected cases,” a DGHS spokesperson said. “Prompt medical attention, reporting of suspected cases, and vaccination are critical to preventing further fatalities.”
The government continues to mobilise hospitals and health facilities to ensure adequate care and treatment, while communities are being urged to stay alert and help contain the spread of the disease.
