The ECNEC meeting in Bangladesh marked a key policy milestone on Monday as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the first session of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council under the newly formed government.

The meeting for the fiscal year 2025–26 was held at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office.

This first ECNEC meeting under the new administration brought together ministers and senior officials to review and approve a range of development project proposals aligned with national economic priorities.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council serves as the country’s highest body for approving public investment projects, playing a central role in shaping infrastructure, energy and economic policy decisions.

Officials present at the meeting placed multiple proposals for discussion, covering sectors linked to national development planning and budget execution for the upcoming fiscal year.

The session reflects the government’s early focus on accelerating project approvals and maintaining policy continuity in areas critical to economic growth, including infrastructure expansion and energy sector development.

The meeting began earlier in the day with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presiding, as confirmed in an official release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
