Despite growing concerns over the ongoing measles outbreak and the fuel crisis, the government of Bangladesh has no plans to close primary schools or move classes online.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj made this clear while speaking to reporters on Monday.

The state minister visited several primary schools in Dhaka, checking on school facilities and observing classes in session. “Schools are operating normally, and our focus remains on ensuring students continue learning in the classroom,” he said.

He added that there is no immediate plan to introduce online classes at the primary level.

Bobby Hajjaj emphasised that the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is committed to uninterrupted in-person education. While the government always monitors the situation closely and considers possible measures, no decision has been made to close schools. Authorities are working to keep teaching and learning running smoothly.

Looking ahead, the state minister said the government is planning to introduce several new initiatives in the education sector between June and July. These programs are aimed at improving the quality of primary education and strengthening the overall system. The recent school visits were intended to assess current conditions and ensure schools are ready for the upcoming changes.

“Primary education is the foundation of the nation, and our priority is to make sure children continue learning safely and effectively,” Bobby Hajjaj added.
