Following the recent cancellation of Dr Mizanur Rahman Azhari’s visa, the Australian government has now formally revoked the visa of Shaykh Ahmadullah, a prominent Bangladeshi Islamic speaker.

The decision was announced by the Home Affairs Ministry of Australia on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the cancellation took place while Shaykh Ahmadullah was preparing to depart from Sydney Airport.

The move was confirmed by Assistant Minister for Immigration, Matt Thistlethwaite, who emphasised that the Australian government takes a firm stance against individuals who promote antisemitic or Islamophobic ideas.

Local media, including The Daily Telegraph, noted that Shaykh Ahmadullah had previously made controversial statements targeting Jewish communities, referring to them in derogatory terms and holding them responsible for global unrest.

Authorities cited these remarks as the primary reason for denying him entry into the country.

This action comes amid heightened scrutiny of foreign speakers visiting Australia, particularly those whose statements are deemed to incite hatred or foster division.

Immigration officials have reiterated that the country maintains strict policies to ensure that public discourse aligns with values of tolerance, respect and social cohesion.

The cancellation has sparked reactions both in Bangladesh and among international observers, highlighting the ongoing debate around freedom of speech versus the responsibility to prevent hate speech. Shaykh Ahmadullah had been scheduled to participate in religious events across Australia before the government’s decision.
