Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman is set to begin a three-day official visit to Delhi on Tuesday, ahead of his participation in the Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius.

This will be the first visit by a Bangladeshi minister to Delhi since the BNP-led government took office under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, making the trip diplomatically significant.

During his stay in Delhi, the foreign minister is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings with key Indian officials.

On 7 April, he will meet India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

The following day, he is expected to sit down with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, alongside courtesy calls on Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Officials say the visit is aimed at reinforcing long-term ties between Dhaka and New Delhi. Discussions are likely to cover a range of issues, including visa access for Bangladeshi citizens, trade facilitation and easing restrictions on exports. The trip is also seen as an effort to maintain a stable and cooperative relationship between the two neighbours, based on mutual respect and shared interests.

During the visit, Khalilur Rahman will be accompanied by the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.

After concluding his meetings in Delhi, he will leave for Port Louis on 9 April to attend the Indian Ocean Conference, scheduled from 10 to 12 April.

The visit continues a series of recent diplomatic engagements by the foreign minister, reflecting Bangladesh’s active role in regional and global affairs.
