Bangladesh has reported additional measles-related deaths as health authorities continue to track a growing number of infections across the country, highlighting ongoing concerns over the spread of the disease.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), two more deaths have been confirmed as caused by measles, while five additional fatalities are being treated as suspected cases linked to the outbreak.

The latest figures also show a sharp rise in infections, with more than a thousand new suspected cases identified nationwide within a single reporting period. Health officials confirmed that a significant number of these cases have been verified through laboratory testing.

Since mid-March, the outbreak has expanded steadily, with total confirmed cases exceeding one thousand and suspected infections reaching several thousand more. During the same period, confirmed deaths have continued to increase, alongside a larger number of fatalities associated with suspected symptoms.

Data from the health authorities indicate that the highest concentration of cases has been recorded in the Dhaka division, where both confirmed and suspected infections account for a substantial share of the national total.

Despite the rising case numbers, a large proportion of patients have recovered following treatment, according to official figures. Health services remain engaged in monitoring the situation, with ongoing data collection and analysis aimed at guiding response efforts.

Authorities say they are maintaining surveillance through a central control system and are working to ensure that patients receive appropriate medical care. At the same time, the public has been urged to remain cautious, particularly by recognising early symptoms and seeking prompt treatment.

The continued rise in cases underscores the importance of vigilance and preventive measures as Bangladesh works to contain the outbreak and limit further loss of life.
