State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Monday praised Libya for its continued support of Bangladeshi expatriates and welcomed its recent initiative to recruit medical personnel, highlighting Dhaka’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
The remarks came during a courtesy call by Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulmutalib S M Suliman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, according to a ministry press release.
The meeting underscored the long-standing friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries.
Shama Obaed Islam expressed gratitude to Libyan authorities for ensuring the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi workers and for assisting in repatriating nationals stranded in Libya.
She also emphasised the potential to expand collaboration in trade and investment, particularly in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and manpower.
To boost economic ties, the state minister suggested establishing a Bangladesh-Libya Joint Business Forum to facilitate stronger business engagement between the two nations.
Ambassador Suliman reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to recruiting skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi manpower and collaborating in energy and other key sectors.
He assured ongoing support for Bangladeshi expatriates living in Libya.
The state minister highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people connections through cultural and sports exchanges and stressed the value of regular high-level visits to deepen bilateral ties.
The ambassador echoed these sentiments, affirming Libya’s dedication to enhancing the brotherly relations between the two countries.
