The Bangladesh Hajj package cost for 2027 is set to be reduced as the government plans new measures to make pilgrimage more affordable, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad said in Parliament.

Responding to a question from lawmaker Lutfur Rahman, the minister said initiatives will be taken “to reduce the cost of the Hajj package for 2027 considering the overall situation and the needs and facilities of the pilgrims.”

He noted that preparations for the 2026 Hajj are already in the final stage following the announcement of the official package, with all major payments for both the Bangladeshi and Saudi Arabian phases completed.

Kaikobad said visa processing has been finalised in line with Saudi timelines and confirmed that Hajj flights are scheduled to begin from April 18.

The minister also outlined a series of measures aimed at improving services for pilgrims. He said, "Comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure safe transportation, healthcare, immigration and pre-departure facilities for Hajj pilgrims.”

To manage transport, a dedicated traffic plan has been introduced in coordination with Dhaka Metropolitan Police to ensure smooth movement from the Hajj Camp to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Pilgrims will use designated entry and exit routes to reduce congestion, while buses will access the airport through a specific cargo terminal road due to one-way traffic arrangements.

Healthcare facilities have also been strengthened, with a fully equipped medical centre operating at the Hajj Camp. The facility will provide 24-hour emergency services under the Directorate General of Health Services, supported by doctors, nurses and medical staff, along with standby ambulance services for critical cases.

On immigration procedures, the minister said pilgrims will complete boarding and immigration formalities at the Hajj Camp, while Saudi immigration will be processed at the airport under the Makkah Route Initiative. This allows travellers to avoid long queues upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Pre-departure arrangements include luggage tagging before boarding and streamlined processing to ensure a smoother travel experience. Bangladesh remains among a limited number of countries benefiting from the Makkah Route Initiative, he added.

Monitoring and support systems have also been enhanced. A 24-hour control room will operate at the Hajj Camp under direct ministry supervision, while pilgrims’ movements will be tracked through the “Labbayk” mobile application. A dedicated call centre will remain active to receive complaints and feedback.

The minister said these combined efforts are aimed at improving service quality while preparing for future cost reductions, signalling a broader policy focus on accessibility and efficiency in Bangladesh’s Hajj management system.
