The National Parliament on Friday approved 10 bills, converting several ordinances issued during the interim government period into formal laws.
The bills were passed unanimously during the morning sitting of the 13th day of the first session of the 13th Parliament, presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. As no amendments were proposed, the legislation was adopted without detailed discussion.
According to parliamentary proceedings, a special committee reviewed a total of 133 ordinances promulgated earlier. It recommended that 98 be passed without any changes, while 15 required amendments. The committee also suggested cancelling four ordinances and replacing 16 others with revised and stronger versions.
The bills approved during the session were among those recommended for passage without modification.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher placed five development authority bills - for Narayanganj, Barishal, Mymensingh, Cumilla and Rangpur - which were all endorsed by the Parliament.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury presented the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Amendment) Bill, 2026, while Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo tabled the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation Bill, 2026. Both were passed unanimously.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury also secured approval for three financial bills: the Deposit Protection Bill, 2026, the Excises and Salt Bill, 2026, and the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The passage of these bills marks a continued effort by parliament to formalise interim ordinances and strengthen the country’s legal framework.
