The government is planning to strengthen education system monitoring through CCTV surveillance, with Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon announcing that cameras will be installed in classrooms and examination halls to ensure discipline and transparency in academic institutions.

Speaking at an exchange meeting with centre secretaries from the Rajshahi Education Board, Madrasa Education Board and Technical Education Board, held at the Dr Kaiser Rahman Chowdhury Auditorium of Rajshahi Medical College, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon said modern technology now allows full-scale monitoring of activities from remote locations, including classrooms and exam centres.

“Now you can see the whole world from home. In the same way, it is possible to see exam centres. That is why CCTV cameras will be installed in classrooms and examination halls,” he said.

The education minister stressed that ensuring discipline in examinations requires joint cooperation between the government and teachers, recalling earlier anti-cheating measures implemented during his previous tenure.

“I did not bring teachers from abroad to stop cheating. It was done with the cooperation of local teachers. It proves that if the government has the will, teachers also cooperate,” he said.

He added that administrative coordination is essential, noting that teachers alone cannot maintain discipline without institutional support. According to him, a structured monitoring system is necessary to restore order in the academic environment.

The education minister said the government will also address irregularities involving electronic devices during examinations but confirmed that CCTV surveillance remains the central policy tool.

“There is no need for excessive measures this time. We are mainly talking about closed-circuit cameras. But this is not only for examinations. There should be no misunderstanding about it,” he said.

He also highlighted concerns raised by both students and teachers in technical education institutions regarding irregular class attendance, saying monitoring is required to improve accountability.

“Students say classes are not held properly, and teachers say students do not attend regularly. In such a situation, we can install CCTV cameras. Recordings will be available,” he said.

“I will be able to see what teachers are doing and what students are doing. We need monitoring, and there is no alternative,” he added.

He further said that CCTV cameras should be installed across classrooms to allow authorities in Dhaka and Rajshahi to verify teaching activities and attendance, strengthening oversight in the education sector.

“We can check whether teachers are attending on time and whether students are attentive. Alongside this, CCTV cameras will also be installed in examination halls,” he said.

The meeting was organised by the Rajshahi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and chaired by its Chairman Prof A N M Mofakhkharul Islam. Special guests included Member of Parliament Shafiqul Haque Milon, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Divisional Commissioner Dr A N M Bozlur Rashid and Rajshahi Zila Parishad Administrator Ershad Ali Isha.

Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon also attended a seminar as chief guest at the Shaheed Osman Bin Hadi Auditorium of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute during the Regional Skills and Innovation Competition, where he interacted with teachers and students.
