Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday issued directives to ensure smooth and high-quality arrangements for this year’s Hajj operations, instructing officials to take all necessary steps so that pilgrims do not face inconvenience.
According to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister stressed that everyone involved in Hajj management must deliver the highest level of service and remain alert to prevent any hardship for pilgrims.
He made the remarks during a meeting of the National Committee on Hajj Management held at the Secretariat, which was chaired by the Prime Minister.
The meeting reviewed recurring issues faced by Bangladeshi pilgrims in previous years and discussed measures to address them more effectively. Discussions also focused on strengthening overall Hajj administration, including digitising pilgrim data, improving monitoring of Hajj agencies, and taking action against agencies with complaints or irregularities.
Officials also proposed introducing a system of appointing guides (Moallem) from among Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Saudi Arabia starting next year, aiming to improve support for pilgrims on the ground.
Authorities informed the meeting that a total of 78,500 Bangladeshi citizens will perform Hajj this year. Of them, 4,565 will travel under government management, while the remaining 73,935 will go through private Hajj agencies.
Around half of the pilgrims will travel via Biman Bangladesh Airlines, while the rest will be carried by Saudia Airlines and Flynas. Hajj flights are scheduled to begin on the night of 18 April.
Senior officials from the Religious Affairs Ministry, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Cabinet Division, and other relevant departments attended the meeting, along with representatives from the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAB).
