Bangladesh is witnessing a continued rise in measles infections, with health authorities reporting a sharp increase in both suspected and confirmed cases over the past 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 1,268 new suspected measles cases were recorded between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday. During the same period, 150 cases were confirmed through testing, while four deaths were officially confirmed.

In addition, six more deaths linked to suspected measles cases were reported in the latest 24-hour period, highlighting growing concerns over the severity of the outbreak.

The DGHS data shows that since 15 March, the country has recorded 2,639 confirmed measles cases, alongside a much higher number of 15,653 suspected infections. The rising figures indicate a widening spread of the disease across different regions.

Fatalities have also increased during this period. A total of 28 people have died from confirmed measles, while 151 deaths have been reported among suspected cases, underscoring the serious public health impact of the outbreak.

Despite the surge in infections, health officials noted that 7,656 patients have recovered so far, offering some relief amid the escalating situation.

Public health experts warn that the ongoing increase in both infections and deaths reflects a worsening measles situation in Bangladesh, calling for strengthened surveillance, vaccination efforts, and timely medical response to contain further spread.
