India is set to resume visa services, including of medical and business, for Bangladeshi nationals from next week, in what is being seen as a positive development in bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday.
He said that the decision had been agreed upon by India, signalling renewed cooperation between Dhaka and New Delhi.
Humayun Kabir expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties, stating that a constructive mindset on both sides could significantly strengthen relations.
“If there is a good mindset, relations between the two countries can move forward in a very positive direction,” he said.
He further noted that the discussions between the two sides covered a wide range of bilateral issues of mutual interest. Both countries engaged in constructive dialogue on several outstanding concerns, indicating a willingness to address and resolve them through continued engagement.
The Prime Minister’s adviser also mentioned that Bangladesh conveyed its appreciation to India for supplying diesel through cross-border pipelines, describing it as an important example of practical cooperation.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Humayun Kabir visited New Delhi on a three-day official tour. During the visit, they held meetings with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, where both sides discussed a range of bilateral matters aimed at strengthening cooperation and enhancing regional stability.
The resumption of visa services is expected to ease travel for Bangladeshi citizens, particularly patients seeking medical treatment and businesspersons engaged in cross-border trade, further boosting people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
