The Director General (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Additional Inspector General Md Ahsan Habib Palash has said that there is no security threat ahead of the upcoming Pahela Baishakh celebrations across the country.

He made the remarks on Monday during a press briefing after inspecting RAB’s overall security preparations at Ramna Batamul in the capital.

The RAB chief said that adequate security arrangements have already been put in place at major celebration points in Dhaka, including Ramna Batamul, Shahbagh, TSC, Hatirjheel and Manik Mia Avenue, where large gatherings are expected for the Bengali New Year festivities.

He added that law enforcement agencies have established screening checkpoints and observation posts at key locations to ensure smooth and safe celebrations for the public.

According to him, RAB’s bomb disposal units and dog squads are actively conducting surveillance and security operations as part of precautionary measures. In addition, control rooms, CCTV monitoring systems and checkpoints have been set up nationwide to oversee security during Pahela Baishakh events.

The RAB DG also said that special attention is being given to prevent eve-teasing, harassment and any form of misconduct targeting women during the celebrations.

He emphasised that maintaining public safety and ensuring a peaceful environment remains the top priority of law enforcement agencies.

He expressed hope that this year’s Pahela Baishakh celebrations will be more vibrant and joyful compared to previous years, with people able to enjoy the festivities without any fear or disruption.

Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and follow guidelines to ensure a smooth celebration of the Bengali New Year across the country.
