Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Shakhawat Husain on Tuesday said the government is planning to introduce Health Cards by June this year as part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
He made the announcement while inaugurating a traditional Pahela Baishakh fair on the Monohardi Upazila Parishad premises in Narsingdi, according to an official handout.
The minister said the initiative is aimed at improving access to healthcare services and ensuring better support for citizens.
He also indicated that budgetary allocation for the health sector would be increased in the upcoming national budget to accelerate development.
Highlighting various government programmes, he said measures such as agricultural loan waivers, assistance for underprivileged communities, TR and Kabikha schemes, and canal excavation projects are being implemented to improve overall living standards.
Addressing the ongoing measles outbreak, the minister said vaccination campaigns are currently being carried out in 30 upazilas and four city corporations.
He added that a nationwide campaign will begin on 20 April, during which children will receive measles vaccines along with Vitamin A capsules.
“We are working to bring the situation under control as quickly as possible,” he said.
Earlier, a colourful procession marking Pahela Baishakh was brought out from the upazila parishad premises, adding festivity to the occasion.
