The government of Bangladesh will begin the long-awaited teacher recruitment process very soon, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Wednesday, indicating that efforts are underway to address long-standing vacancies in the education sector.

He said recruitment and postings of teachers had remained stalled for years due to various complications during the previous administration, but the process is now being restarted.

“The teacher recruitment process will begin very soon,” the minister said while speaking at a views-exchange meeting with centre secretaries of SSC and equivalent examinations-2026.

The event was organised by the Sylhet Education Board along with the madrasa and technical education boards at Jalalabad Gas Auditorium in Sylhet.

The minister also highlighted broader government plans for the education sector, noting that the Prime Minister has announced an initiative to raise education spending to 5 per cent of GDP.

He said this reflects a commitment to improving infrastructure, quality, and access to education nationwide.

He added that the government is planning to establish multipurpose examination centres in every upazila to modernise the examination system and ensure smoother conduct of public exams.

“We are working in phases to resolve the various problems faced by teachers,” he said, adding that English-medium institutions are also being brought under stronger regulatory oversight to ensure accountability.

The minister further said that 18 educational institutions affected by the Sylhet–Dhaka six-lane highway expansion project will be relocated on an urgent basis to minimise disruption to education.

The meeting was attended by local Members of Parliament, education board officials, and teachers from different upazilas of Sylhet, who raised various challenges faced by educational institutions in the region.
